Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!
Background and How it Started
South London Sikh Youth are continuing to support WSUP (Woolwich Service User Project), to provide hot vegetarian meals for the homeless or needy service users. We started collaborating and supporting this initiative in 2016. Since we started working with the organisation we honestly thank Guru Sahib so much for the seva.
WSUP provides bi-weekly services (at the time of writing this) to the homeless and needy. WSUP Representatives (Helen) approached one of our SLSY Sevadars (Juspreet Singh) when they were finding it hard to provide a hot meal for their service users (of which there were approximately 60-80) on Saturdays. This saw the birth of this seva opportunity and from that point onwards a group of local friends and sevadars of South London Sikh Youth started to collaborate and share weekly responsibilities. This naturally grew to a group of families in the local community with a couple of sevadars taking responsiblity for creating a rota and allocating each week’s seva to a different family, which continues to today. We are grateful to all the families who support, but especially Tejinder Kaur and Juginder Singh who manage the current Rota.
WSUP are now provided with other cold meals from other organisations too, and we are no longer the sole food provider, however we are constantly encouraged to find that service users are extremely grateful for the warm Langar (blessed food) provided by our volunteers and sevadars.
WSUP provide many other services for those who need it, which you are more than welcome to find out more about. Feel free to follow South London Sikh Youth on Facebook where updates are posted about the ongoing seva, and follow WSUP on Facebook where they also post regularly about how they try and help all service users.
