Coronavirus Sikh Support
Since the 17th January 2021, during the Government’s Lockdowns (1, 2, and 3) in England, the local community, assisted by South London Sikh Youth, Guru Nanak Seva, and Gurdwara Sahib Woolwich, were cooking Langar (free blessed meals) for anyone who needs it. There were members of our local community who were either shielding, or staying at home and protecting themselves and their families. We have recently wound up this project, but as any Sikh organisation would, we are keeping communication channels open for anyone who is looking for food.
If you need access to either Food, Groceries, Medication Pick Up, or friendly chat, please get in touch with us using the information on our Contact Us page. We look forward to hearing from you.
If you are looking to help us out as a volunteer (not limited to this particular project), please go to the Volunteer Registration section of our Contact Us page. We eagerly look forward to hearing from you.
Gurdwara Sahib Woolwich Stewarding Seva
During the Coronavirus Pandemic which is affecting people the world over, the South London Sikh Youth Sevadar team and volunteers, are assisting Gurdwara Sahib Woolwich with seva to ensure that the Gurdwara remains open, and can continue to provide Langar (blessed food) to those who need it. We are eternally grateful to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji for blessing us with the opportunity to serve, and thank each and every volunteer who has come forward and stepped up to help!
INFORMATION ABOUT THE HELP PROVIDED DURING LOCKDOWN 1
Below is information on the previous seva which was run to serve langar to anyone who was unable to leave the house, or who did not have easy access to food (eg NHS institions) during the First Lockdown in England.
With Vaheguru ji’s blessings, local volunteers from South London Sikh Youth and GND Street Seva joined forces to provide support for the elderly and vulnerable who are self isolating due to the Covid 19 Pandemic (aka Coronavirus Pandemic). Areas covered included Dartford, Bexley, Lewisham, Woolwich and Greenwich.
Our volunteers delivered free hot meals, pick up/drop off medications and essential shopping to individuals in high risk categories who were in isolation. #SupportOurCommunity #Langar
We were also blessed to provide hot meals to staff at NHS institutions, and were supported by our local Gurdwara and over 100 volunteers.
Please note that the external langar service is now closed, with admin team and volunteers assisting in service of sangat and visitors at the local Gurdwara. Please refer to the above Statement of Close.
If you would like to donate towards other efforts like this, please follow links to our Donations page. We are extremely grateful for every penny you donate, and hope you trust us to direct your donations to the projects and people who need it. We would always encourage you to where possible volunteer your time and help us out too!
We are thankful to Gurdwara Sahib Woolwich for allowing us to use their Basement Hall, Kitchen and Car Park for this seva, and the countless sevadars who have already donated their time and effort to make this seva run seamlessly. We have also been supported by sevadars from many different locations, including Ramgarhia Sikh Association and Guru Nanak Darbar Erith, and we hope that Maharaj continues to bless us all with the opportunity to serve langar to those who need it, wherever and whenever. We are also thankful to Greenwich Council for providing us with much needed Personal Protection Equipment that will keep our volunteers safe while serving. #DhanGuruNanak
